A recent study in Nature, the weekly scientific journal, suggests that playing video games can be good for one’s vision. Researchers at the University of Rochester say that action game players react to fast-moving objects more efficiently and can track 30% more objects than non-gamers. Video and computer games, it seems, can actually help players train their visual attention. According to one German neurobiologist, the nerve cells may shift shape from playing these games and this helps the nerve cells communicate more effectively with each other. However, only the shoot-em up games helped improve vision. The more sedate games like Chess, Scrabble, and Tetris, even when played electronically made no visual improvements.
Cornell fiber scientist Juan Hinestroza is working with the U.S. government to create fabrics made of functional nanofibers that would decompose toxic industrial chemicals into harmless byproducts. Potential applications include safety gear for U.S. soldiers and filtration systems for buildings and vehicles. The first project, in collaboration with North Carolina State University, is aimed at understanding how very small electrical charges present in fibers and nanofibers can help in capturing nanoparticles, bacteria and viruses. The position and distribution of the electrical charges on the nanofibers will be fed into computerized fluid dynamics algorithms developed by Andrey Kutznetsov of NC State to predict the trajectory of the nanoparticles challenging the filter. Hinestroza and NC State’s Warren Jasper pioneered work in this area a couple of years ago. The second project, in collaboration with the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), will study the incorporation of a new type of molecules – called metal organic polyhedra and metal organic frameworks – onto polymeric nanofibers to trap dangerous gases as toxic industrial chemicals and chemical warfare agents, then decompose them into substances that are less harmful to humans and capture them for further decontamination. The synthesis of these molecules was pioneered by Omar Yaghi of UCLA. This project will also look into the potential toxicity of these nanofiber-nanoparticle systems to humans in collaboration with Andre Nel from UCLA Medical School.
Water Powered Cars or Hydrogen/Oxygen Powered Cars, using 100% water as fuel is real. If all ICE motors (Internal Combustion Engines) were converted to burn hydrogen and oxygen in the water, as fuel to propel cars, trucks, semi’s etc., we would no longer need gas stations, oil tankers, refineries, SMOG and war. By spiltting water by electrolysis and creating hydrogen/oxygen gas, you can replace gasoline. The first ICE engine ran on hydrogen from water. BMW has them has them while Hyunda will be making them and Japan indorses them. Denny Klein, an inventor from Florida, has introduced the world’s first water powered car. His own 1994 Ford Escort, labeled “Hydrogen Technology”, can run on a combination of water and gasoline, and Klein says it is possible to develop a system powered purely by water. The prototype is a hybrid car, shown to drive 100 miles using 4 ounces of water, without losing power. For more than three decades now, Filipino inventor Daniel Dingel has been claiming that his car can run with water as fuel. Dingel built a car reactor that uses electricity from a 12-volt car battery to split the ordinary tap water into hydrogen and oxygen components. The hydrogen can then be used to power the car engine.
Six year olds can now be accepted as grade one students. According to the Department of Education, a birth certificate must be presented, or a joint affidavit reflecting the child’s age.
Even children younger than six can be accepted in grade one, provided they pass the assessment tests to be sure that they are, indeed, ready for gradeschool.

Jane Ong, spokesman of a group of swimmers, complained that the Philippine Olympic Committee should implement its real decision in replacing Monchito Ilagan as president of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association-National Capital Region. Ong reminded the POC of a provision for the holding of an election among the regional directors based on the bylaws of PASA. In 2005, an agreement was forged to install Mark Joseph as temporary president until the regional elections were held. “To our knowledge, there has been no elections of regional directors and NCR has no president to this day,” stresses Ong.
