More Pinoys will now have a chance to catch Ms. Regine Velasquez, one of the Philippines’ foremost music artists, perform, through her new 45-minute show, Songbird. The latest GMA7 kapuso offering will showcase “first-rate performances” from Regine, as she pays tribute to the world’s best music legends and artists.
Songbird will also be featuring a different theme each week, with Regine doing about 7 to 8 songs each week. Watch Songbird every Thursday, after Legend, at the GMA7 kapuso network, for the Pinoy ultimate tv concert night experience.
Games and Amusement Board Chairman Eric Buhain sternly warned that he might be forced to issue a cease and desist orders to billiards promoters that hold tournaments without the necessary permits from government agencies. During the first week of May, two big billiards tournaments were held that caught the GAB’s attention. The Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines had the Mandaluyong Cup 10-Ball with Antonio Gabica taking home the grand prize of $10,000 while the Billiards Manager and Players Association of the Philippines mounted the Senate President Manny Villar 9-Ball whose P400,000 top prize was won by Warren Kiamco. On their part, the billiards promoters asked the Philippine Senate to probe into the GAB’S harassment and arrogation of non-existent powers.
Officers and members of the Entertainment Press Society (ENPRESS) will hold a Nominees’ Night at The Library on May 20, 2008 to formally present the official nominees for the Golden Screen Awards scheduled in June. ENPRESS has announced the nominees for Best Motion Picture as Endo, Foster Child, Haw-Ang, Kadin, Pisay, Still Life, Tirador, Katas ng Saudi and Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo. Cherry Pie Picache, Glaiza de Castro, Ina Feleo, Jacklyn Jose, Jodi Santamaria, Kaila Aguiluz, Judy Ann Santos, Lorna Tolentino and Toni Gonzaga are the nominees for Best Actress while Jinggoy Estrada, Ryan Agoncillo, Wendell Ramos, Coco Martin, Jason Abalos, John Lloyd Cruz, Robin Padilla, Romnick Sarmenta and Sid Lucero vie for the Best Actor award.
Bamboo is set for a Rock N’ Rumble concert this coming July 5, 7 p.m. at the World Trade Center presented by Pony Footwear in cooperation with Fudge Magazine, SM Malls, Sidebar Café and Yoshinoya, with media partners, Manila Bulletin and Sugar Sugar magazine.
Bamboo gave us some hit songs like ‘noypi’, ‘tatsulok’ and ‘Halellujah’. Bamboo Mañalac, a former Rivermaya’s frontman will surely rock WTC on the said date.
Incoming Senior Student Gian Dapul of Philippine Science Highschool won the English Speaking Union’s International Public Speaking Competition in London. He bested 57 other contestants coming from different countries who delivered a five-minute speech on the theme “New Frontiers.” Second placer came from Thailand and third placer came from Bulgaria.
Archbishop Cruz posts bail for the libel case filed against him at the Manila Regional Trial Court. The archbishop wonders, however, about the warrant of arrest set since the case is said to have been junked by the Manila Prosecutors Office.
The Archbishop is a known critic of the Arroyo administration.

Classic actress G. Toengi has made her way into the international showbiz world via her film “Canvas” , directed by Arlene Bogna and produced by Women in Film. At the 41st Annual Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival, “Canvas” received the 2008 Remi Award. A couple of months back, this G. Toengi starrer was shown at the Regal Arbor Cinema in Austin, Texas. The movie, for the benefit of the charitable group ‘A Window Between Worlds’, was also shown at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
Sam Milby and Piolo Pascual have withdrawn the Libel Case against Talk Show host / showbiz writer Lolit Solis after Ms. Solis signed her statement of retraction - “There is no factual basis for my article which came out on October 12, 2007″. I Am Sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I caused. They also agreed after this they won’t be talking about the incident again.
