West Side Story is a dance/musical theatre show starred by Balladeer Christian Bautista, SOP host/singer Karylle Padilla Tatlonghari, Joanna Ampil (who made a name in Musical Theatre in London) and other talented stars. The show will run from September to October 2008 at the Meralco Theater.

The chairman of Microsoft and one of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates,  stepped down from his job running the world’s largest software company. But Mr Gates’ fortune is at the root of his decision to leave his day job and concentrate on his charitable organisation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He will remain as Microsoft’s chairman and work on special technology projects, but according to Mr Gates, great wealth brings great responsibility and his future work will include finding new vaccines and financing projects in the developing Mr Gates, who made his fortune through developing software for the personal computer, plans to devote his time to charity work. The son of a successful lawyer from Seattle, Mr Gates programmed his first computer at the age of 13.  Now 52, he still has boyish looks, but he is no longer the world’s richest man. He has been overtaken by the investor Warren Buffett and the Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim.

Sony and Sony Ericsson have come out on top of the latest Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics, although most companies saw their scores drop due to a new ranking system based on wider criteria.Sony Ericsson, which shared first place overall with Sony, became the first company to score almost top marks in the chemical sector, having removed PVC, antimony, beryllium and phthalates from its products. It missed a perfect score because of “unreasonably high threshold limits for brominated flame retardants in products that are allegedly BFR-free.” Sony scored lower on the chemicals criteria because it has fewer models on sale that are free of the substances targeted by Greenpeace. Nokia was ranked third, and once again would have come first were it not for inconsistencies in its product take-back and recycling program. Samsung and Toshiba, which led the previous edition of the guide, fell due to low scores in the new energy criteria. Toshiba ranked slightly better on energy due to its commitment to an absolute reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics was first published in August 2006. It ranks the 18 biggest makers of PCs, mobile phones, TVs and game consoles.

Vint Cerf, one of the fathers of the Internet and Google’s chief Internet evangelist, talked with Beet.tv’s Andy Plesser about the future of video and broadband at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York. Cerf foresaw that video will be downloaded rather than streamed over time. With gigabit for second speed, users could download an hour of video in 16 seconds. You can download music faster than you can listen to it. Cerf said that broadcasting, rather than downloading a separate copy to every user, is a good delivery model, and that users will have more control over which ads to watch. However, obtaining the bandwidth to download a movie in seconds is a problem. In Addition to this, he says that they need to have as many broadband solutions as possible to evaluate for cost and deploy in the places where they are most effective. Well, planning is the first step but I will be glad if actions are performed

GMA kapuso star Katrina Halili is happy even if she ranked second only to another kapuso star Marian Rivera. The two time sexiest filipina, based on FHM’s polls, is even thankful that there are people out there who supports her, who would even go as far as vote her for the title. The sexy star also says she is very happy for Marian’s victory.

GMA kapuso artist Dingdong Dantes and ABS-CBN kapamilya home-grown talent Angelica Panganiban are working together as the new image models for the shoe brand, Mario d’ Boro. Incidentally, starting July 14, their teleseryes would be “rivals” as ABS-CBN releases Iisa Pa Lamang to match GMA7’s Dyesebel. 

People’s Champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will be having a concert, “Voices of the Heart”,  on June 29 at The Orleans, Las Vegas Hotel and casino at 5pm. He will be performing with Philippine Juke Box Queen Imelda Papin. 

The concert aims to raise funds for the pruchase of dialysis machines for the Philippine General Hospital.

Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 scholar Liezel Garcia strikes two after she was again named the star scholar of the 2nd gala night. The other top scholars are Bugoy and Laarni. Chivas, who got a forced expulsion days ago also performed. He sang Just like a Pill by Pink.

Now that kapuso star Marian Rivera is FHM’s sexiest, will she pose as cover girl for a men’s mag — FHM atleast?

It will be remembered that Marian said in the earlier part of the FHM sexiest voting that she would only pose for a men’s mag when she tops the FHM sexiest. Other kapuso joining her are Katrina Halili, Ehra Madrigal, Diana Zubiri, and Iwa Moto.
