A network management system that lets users get to the video, music and other files on a home or small-business LAN will soon offer that remote access from mobile phones. SingleClick Systems said that its SingleClick Remote Access technology, which was announced earlier this year, will work with Apple iPhones, Research In Motion Blackberrys and about 7,000 other types of mobile phones starting this July 15.  Without installing software on the phone, users will be able to get to their media via a password-protected Web portal and then view or listen to it. But there’s a catch: It has to stream over the mobile network. With a remote-access offering introduced earlier this year for US$10 per month, that content is available on customer’s own remote PCs or those of friends and relatives who have been given password access to an individual Web portal. Starting July 15, that same service will include access from mobile phones. The service initially will be available from SingleClick’s Web site, and the company is seeking other channels for it. The mobile feature can also act as a VPN (virtual private network) for viewing shared files within a small business, according to SingleClick.

Mobile phone operator Orange said on Tuesday that it had teamed up with GotWind, a firm specializing in renewable energy, to produce a recharger powered by dance energy alone. The portable kinetic energy chargers will be given a test run at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, the world’s biggest greenfield music and arts celebration that begins on a farm in Somerset, England. Orange said the prototype chargers weigh the same as a phone and are about the size of a pack of cards. Attached to the user’s arm, they employ a system of weights and magnets that provide an electric current to completely charge a storage battery. This can then later be used to recharge the phone. This is another breakthrough for a world that is engage in an Environmental Crisis.

Former child star Corey Feldman has finally denied rumours that he was once molested by pop superstar Michael Jackson and insisted the singer is innocent of any abuse claims. Feldman was a close friend of the Jackson throughout his childhood and was subpoenaed as a witness during Jackson’s 2005 child abuse trial. Feldman, now 36, was placed under a strict gagging order, he was forbidden from talking about the case - even to defend his former pal. Nevertheless, Feldman has admitted that he was the victim of childhood abuse but definitely not by Jackson.

Japan’s Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., whose Toughbook series of rugged laptops is used by U.S. police, military and utility workers recently unveiled a compact, “ultra-mobile” version that is practically as easy to handle as a PDA but with all the features of a standard PC and is is small enough to cradle in one hand, yet strong enough to handle the rough and tumble of extreme environments. The CF-U1 mini-tablet emerged unscathed after dropping the device 120 centimeters (3.9 feet) face down, then dunked it in four quarts of water. Its batteries last 10 hours and  measures 184 mm (7.2 inches) wide, 151 mm (5.9 inches) tall and 57 mm (2.2 inches) deep. The tablet features a 5.6-inch touch-screen display, a thumb-operated keyboard, Bluetooth and wireless Internet. With a handstrap in the back, the CF-U1 is held like a flat camcorder. Through its Panasonic brand, Matsushita holds a leading 61-percent share of the rugged-PC market worldwide, according to the company. It sold 574,000 units in 2007, and hopes the CF-U1 will extend its dominance.

Individual paying members of the Social Security System (SSS), such as self-employed and voluntary members, farmers, fishermen and other informal sector workers, non-workings spouses, and overseas Filipino workers, can now make their contributions and loan payments through the SM Payment Center in 26 SM Malls around the country.

This was announced by SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Corazon de la Paz-Bernardo, who added that the newest collection agreement between SSS and SM would benefit busy SSS members.

The acceptance of SSS payments started on May 15, 2008, initally at payment centers at SM North EDSA, SM South Mall, SM Fairview, and SM Megamall. With the positive response from SSS members, the number of branches that accept SSS payments was expanded to include SM malls in Manila, Sta. Mesa, San Lazaro, Sucat, Taytay, Bicutan, Bacoor, Dasmari?as, Batangas, Lipa, Sta. Rosa, Marilao, Lucena, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Pampanga, Clark, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Baguio, and at the Mall of Asia.

When paying at SM Payment Centers, members must use either SS Payment Form RS-5 (for contributions), SS Form ML-1 (for salary loans), or SS Form REL-9 (for real estate loans). These payment forms are available at all SSS branches or can be downloaded through the SSS Website (www.sss.gov.ph). The deadline for payments is every 10th of the month following the applicable month or quarter. If the 10th of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, the deadline is moved to the next immediate working day.
