NBI conducted a News Blackout while investigating the case of Ted Failon’s wife,Trina.Ted,together with his daughter Kaye,went to NBI- NCR Chief Atty. Ed Villarta,with their respective lawyers Atty. Alfredo Molo,Atty. Arnold Perez and an unknown personality.Failon underwent 5 hours of questioning to clear things unsolved by the QCPD.Meanwhile,members of the media did not get a chance to interview Failon because the latter just stayed inside the NBI office.

Sen. Manuel Roxas II scolded Dep-Ed Officials for accommodating a favored contractor for its Food-For-School Program that cornered about P700 million in six consecutive deals since 2004.The Senator conducted a hearing yesterday to investigate the alleged rigging in the bidding process that supplied sub-standard noodles from Vietnam.The original noodle price is P4.50 for every 55-g packet,while it was revealed at the hearing that noodles from Jeverps Manufacturing Corp. costs P18 for every 100-g packet because it allegedly contained “fresh egg” that makes the Senator got mad becuase of the clear identification of overpricing.

ZTE NBN Whistleblower Jun Lozada Jr. was arrested yesterday through a search warrant issued by the MTC.Lozada did not resist arrest when he was picked up by the lawmen from De la Salle Greenhills in San Juan City.Later,he refused to post bail for his release.Lozada would be temporarily detained at the office of the Detective Jail Management Section awaiting the commitment order from the court for transfer to the Manila City Jail.

P7M Fund for the Inmates

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Offcers of the BJMP,DILG,and ICRC to provide micro-infrastructure projects worth P7M for 9,423 inmates in district,city,and municipal jails across the country.DILG Undersecretary Marius Corpus said that this project will be completed in December this year.

PNP,MMDA and NLEX will join force to support the campaign of Unity Ride for the Environment (URE) to make a Guinness World Record on May 8.The Motorbike convoy from EDSA to Clark in Pampanga will be participated by almost 7,000 riders promoting riding safety and discipline in the country.The event is aiming to set a new Guinness world records of being the longest convoy of motorcycles with the number of participants expected to surpass the 5,000 mark.

Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap assured the public that they can still eat pork despite of the news outbreak of the swine flu scare.According to Yap,the World Health Organization said that the virus do not transmit through the meat of animals.He also said that pork meat must be properly cooked for safety purposes.

High Powered Guns Confiscated

Assorted high-powered firearms placed in three balikbayan boxes was confiscated in Manila yesterday with the help of PCG and PNP.Last Tuesday, the PSCC in Manila along with Coast Guard K-9 Unit swooped down on Aboitiz Transport Inc. baggage/luggage inspection area to inspect (3) balikbayan boxes.It was scanned in an ATS X-ray machine, that showed they contained an undetermined number of firearms.The PCG is coordinating with PNP to verify and locate the identities of the shipper and consignee of the illegal shipment.

Close Watch on Animal Handlers

DA Secretary Arthur Yap has ordered a close monitoring on health conditions of animal handlers and other persons in close contact with swine farms to detect possible presence of swine flu virus. He issued the directive to Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Director Divinio Catbagan to heighten its surveillance work through close monitoring since it is no longer an animal health issue but a human health problem.

Patrick Peyton,an Irish Priest who founded the Family Rosary Crusade, a global ministry to families and prayer and because of his crusade,he is now on his way to sainthood.Filipino painter and sculptor Joey Velasco was given a chance to do a 7-foot-tall bronze sculpture of Fr.Peyton.Velasco’s sculpture will be erected in Peyton’s birthplace in county Mayo in Attymass.
