House Speaker Prospero Nograles made an agreement with the University of the Philippines to implement the first-ever “House of the People Scholarship Program” that will further raise the level of professionalism among House secretariat officers and personnel and promote effective public service. The said memorandum was signed at the Andaya Hall, Batasan Pambansa complex last Tuesday afternoon. The house will accommodate an initial list of 42 grantees, nine under the doctoral program and 33 taking up masters of public administration.

Philippine Overseas and Employment Agency would like to cancel the licenses of 12 agencies who allowed the processing of their job orders for the 137 drivers duped by CYM International. POEA has submitted for resolution the investigation held by the Adjudication Division that confirmed their participation in the fake job scam. POEA Deputy Administrator Hans Cacdac confirmed that the 12 agencies processed the travel documents of the drivers like the OEC, OWWA and Philhealth registration known to the industry as “repro job orders” that means, they violated the rules of POEA. These agencies were also charged for illegal exaction, falsification of public documents, contract substitution and other violations under the illegal recruitment provision. They will be given a cancellation of their liscense as a punishment.

DOH has confirmed 4 new cases of having the A-H1N1 virus. A 26 year old woman and a 55 year old man got the virus from the wedding they have attended last May 17. They got the said virus from a Taiwanese and its daughter who also attended the said wedding. Duque said the throat swab samples taken from the four patients are all tested positive for the virus by the DOH’s Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. DOH is expecting more confirmed cases in the coming weeks because of what he called “intensive contact tracing” and heightened public awareness of the virus. He also assures the public that the pandemic preparedness and response plan is in place and that it has expanded its referral hospitals to all DOH regional hospitals and medical centers.

Former House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. resigned from his party, LAKAS-CMD, expressing opposition to the merger between his party and the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi).
