The public was advised by the Bureau of Food and Drugs about the claims of some of the manufacturers of vitamins and food supplements that their products can cure the dreaded swine flu virus. BFAD’s acting director Nazarita T. Tacandong said that people should not be duped by the misleading claims and fraudulent sales promotion practices of some companies that their products can protect people from the virus. The BFAD official said food supplements or vitamins cannot cure the illness and a vaccine has yet to be distributed. She also warned those manufacturers that they will be apprehended if they still continue this false claims. As we all know, vitamins and food supplements just make our immune systems strong and its for us to ensure our bodies are protected from this virus by proper awareness on how to prevent this disease.

Banana Blossoms Salad with Tofu

Ingredients:

1 pc large puso ng saging na saba or banana blossom, saba variety
4 pcs tokwa of tofu, fried and cubed
1 tbsp ginger, chopped
1 pc medium white onion,peeled and sliced
4 pcs tomatoes, diced
1 pc sili espada, chopped (optional)
2 pcs green onions,chopped
1/3 cup vinegar
3/4 cup Carnation Evap
salt to taste

How to Prepare:

1. In boiling water, cook puso ng saging for about 15 minutes or until tender.

2. Drain, rinse in tap water and squeeze out the liquid.

3. Combine cooked puso ng saging with the rest of the ingredients.

4. Mix well. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Total Information Management Corp ( TIM ) withdrew its joint venture with Smartmatic for to supply the Comelec with poll automation machines. Meanwhile, Comelec Chairman Jose Melo will look into the legal possibility of the poll body tying up with the Netherlands-based Smartmatic Corp. to automate the 2010 national elections. Meawnhile, Comelec will also explore the possibility of reconsidering the bids of the six disqualified bidders. Under the bidding law, Smartmatic cannot replace TIM as its Filipino counterpart since they are the ones that have partnered during the bidding process. Then, the withdrawal came as a surprise to the Smartmatic officials, who were negotiating the automation contract with the Comelec’s Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC). Meanwhile, Cesar Flores, Smartmatic international sales director admitted that they did not have any inkling that TIM would pull out. SBAC head Ferdinand Rafanan said TIM could be administratively liable under Rule 13 of Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Act for the sudden withdrawal. Under that law, the Comelec could forfeit the P350-million performance security bond of TIM and ban the firm from joining any of its bidding process for one year.
