Flash Game of Hostage Taking Drama in Manila

Tuesday
Aug 24,2010

A flash game of the 10-hour hostage taking incident at Quirino Grandstand in Manila was released by an unknown programmer.

The game was created by a certain author named “keybol” at the day of the hostage taking. It earned quick popularity among online gamers after it was published in Newgrounds.com as a flash game.

The game which features the same scenario as the Manila hostage drama is entitled “Bus Hostage Policeman”. The aim of the game is to shoot the rude policeman who hostage 25 Asian citizens in one-minute given time.

Moreover the tagline of the game says this: “”Seeking to arm-twist authorities into reinstating him back, a dismissed policeman has taken a bus with 25 passengers hostage here. Can you stop him and blow his brain?”

When the time runs out, regardless of how many times the policeman in the game is shot, a photo of dismissed PNP Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza is displayed along with the caption, “I want to be reinstated back to my job so I hostage these people.”

Below are the comments coming from the other users of the site:

“You totally didn’t just make a mockery of a tragic attack on innocent people,” sarcastically wrote user “chitoryu12″.

“do you even know what are the families of the hostages feeling? THINK FOR JESUS CHRIST!!!” added user “jmb13″

Perhaps, the game author believes that the game he created will easily gain popularity, which is true to reality.

Tuesday
Jun 17,2008

Nintendo maintained its top spot as the most popular console and managed to sell 675,000 Wiis. By comparison Sony sold 209,000 PlayStation 3 machines and Microsoft 187,000 Xbox 360 consoles. Total spending on video games for May was $1.12bn. Total sales for the year so far are $6.6bn. The figures were boosted by continuing strong sales of Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) which was the best-selling title for a second month. The highly praised game kept the top spot despite competition from other new releases such as Mario Kart and Wii Fit for Nintendo’s popular console. Top-selling title GTA IV sold 1.31 million units in May taking its total since its launch in late April to 4.2 million units However, NPD said the strong sales of GTA IV was not boosting console sales. The figures mean that total US sales of the Nintendo Wii number 10.2 million – on a par with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 which has sold 10.27 million. NPD projects that game sales could reach $23bn for 2008 – far higher than the $18bn reached in 2007, which was a 43% jump over 2006.
