NAIA-3 International Flights

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) will have its international flights this August 1, as Cebu Pacific moves both its local and international operations to the site.

Cebu Pacific currently flies to 40 destinations, 24 domestic and 16 international.

 

Nursing Board Exam Result June 2008

The results of the June 2008 Nursing Board Exams are now out and we have a list of exam passers straight from PRC.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announces that 27,765 out of 64,459 passed the Nurse (First Timers, Repeaters, Removals) Licensure Examination given by the Board of Nursing in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga last June 2008.

The result of examination with respect to one (1) examinee was withheld pending final determination of her liabilities under the rules and regulations governing licensure examinations.

Director Abbo Dies

Director and character actor Abbo de la Cruz died of heart attack this morning in Lucban, Quezon.

De la Cruz, or Rico Mambo during the Sex Trip (ST) and Titillating Films (TF) Era, directed Totoy Mola, and was also appeared as an actor in the Pinoy Classic film Oro, Plata, Mata.

Typhoon Helen to hit the Philippines

Weather forecast from GMA News, ABS CBN and the CNN reports a new typhoon codenamed Helen is about to reach the Philippines.

Typhoon signal 2 was raised in three areas in Northern Luzon as tropical storm “Helen” maintained its strength while slowly moving westward, the weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 11 p.m. weather bulletin Monday.

Public storm warning signal number 2 was raised over Cagayan, the Calayan Group of Islands, and Isabela, while signal number 1 has been raised in Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora. No other public storm warning signal has been raised elsewhere.

The storm’s center was located 270 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. The storm was moving “west slowly.”

PAGASA estimated that Helen will be 190 km southeast of Aparri by Tuesday evening, and could either be 50 km north or 260 km west northwest of the town Wednesday evening. By Thursday evening, the storm could be 190 km northwest of Laoag City.

There is no update if classes will be suspended during this time.

Sun Laid-off Employees

All told, the company plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 1,500 to 2,500 employees worldwide. Additional reductions will occur in other regions including EMEA (Europe, Middle East Africa), Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Reducing the number of employees by 2,500 would constitute a loss of about 7 percent of the company’s employees. Sun has cited the economy as the reason for its recent troubles, which saw the company losing US$34 million in the fiscal quarter that ended March 30. A question was addressed whether Sun should abandon its new strategy of giving away its software. Sun will not stop giving it away, according to Schwartz, citing a priority in developer adoption.

Binibining Pilipinas Jennifer Barrientos is the Philippine representative to the pageant.

Firefox 3 makes the Guinness World Record

The Guinness World Records has officially announced that Mozilla Firefox 3 has achieved the record for the “largest number of software downloads in 24 hours” from 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008.

A total of 8,002,530 downloads were made by people for Firefox 3. Mozilla also claims to have close to 200 Million Firefox users in more than 230 countries worldwide. As of today, there are a total of over 580 million downloads of Firefox since it first released.
