Globe Telecom and Western Union announced the launching of their Mobile Money Transfer Service that  Filipinos in Hawaii can now use Western Union facility to transfer money to Globe Gcash subscribers here in the Philippines.  GCASH, Globe Telecom’s mobile wallet service that allows subscribers to conveniently send and receive money using their mobile phones has already served millions of Filipino consumers.

“The combination of Western Union’s Agent network and Globe’s GCASH service introduces a compelling new way for consumers in the  Philippines to receive money from friends and family overseas,” said Matt Dill, General Manager of Western Union Digital Ventures.

E-Passport

The Department of Foreign Affairs has just launched an E-passport, a hightech passport with a built-in microchip where data about the passport holder is stored. DFA says that the applicationn for an E-passport would cost more than the regular passport (which is worth PhP500), but its security features are better.

PS3 Console approved by FCC

A new PlayStation 3 console was approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission last week. Sony’s filing to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission was made because the FCC is the radio regulator in the U.S. and as such all new products that use radio must be submitted to the organization for approval before they can be sold. The PlayStation 3 includes both 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

ABC-5 signs off on August 8

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced in her State of the Nation Address that the price of “texting” or SMS messages would be reduced to P.50 centavos.

To quote the President, “Texting is a way of life. I asked the telecoms to cut the cost of messages between networks. They responded. It is now down to 50 centavos. “

A UAAP basketball player was shot twice last Thursday night  July 24, 2008 and was rushed to Mary Chiles hospital. Mac Baracael is 23 junior forward of the Far Eastern University basketball team.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be delivering her State of the Nation Address tomorrow at 3:30 pm, at the Batasang Pambansa. Classes are reportedly suspended within the vicinity. The 40-minute SONA will mainly be about the social welfare programs of the government.

PAGASA also reports that Arroyo will deliver her SONA rain or shine.

NAIA-3 International Flights

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) will have its international flights this August 1, as Cebu Pacific moves both its local and international operations to the site.

Cebu Pacific currently flies to 40 destinations, 24 domestic and 16 international.
