Globe Telecoms and Smart Communications, Inc. has both launched the much anticipated Apple iPhone 4S today. Globe Telecom hold the launched party at Ayala Museum, while Smart Communications rented out the Rockwell Power Plant Mall. Smart’s first iPhone 4S user is Sherwin Soriaga, who bought a 64GB White iPhone 4S,  while Globe’s first  iPhone 4S subscriber is non other that The Philippine President Noynoy Aquino III himself.

PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has filed a complaint with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) against Altimax Broadcasting Co. (Altimax) and Globe Telecom subsidiary Innove Communications, Inc. (Innove) for the illegal use of radio frequencies, asking that Altimax radio frequencies be recalled and made available to qualified applicants under competitive public bidding.

Ed Viesturs, 51-year-old veteran of seven climbs to Everest’s 29,035-foot summit, said the new technology is not for him.

For 25-year-old Leif Whittaker, who summited Everest for the first time in May — calling his mother on the descent, using a satellite phone — the advantage comes down to being able to easily phone home.

As much as communication is concerned, the 3G capability is a big yes to the mountaineers.

Mobile communication company, Sun Cellular launched Sun Call Home Call Card. The Call Card is an International prepaid card enables Filipino living in the US to call their loved ones in the Philippines subscribed to Sun at very affordable rates. Prepaid card comes with a 35 minutes worth of IDD calls to any Sun Cellular mobile number and can be purchased for only $5 per card abroad.

Facebook has a new companion, FriendFeed, a Silicon Valley startup which allows members to see what their friends are doing online and share content. According to Facebook,12 employees of the California-based FriendFeed Mountain View, will join Facebook and its four founders will hold senior roles on Facebook’s engineering and product teams. Meanwhile, financial details of the purchase were not disclosed. The acquisition of FriendFeed follows Facebook’s failed attempt last year to buy hot microblogging service Twitter. FriendFeed was described as a potential rival to Twitter in its ability to conduct real-time search, an area where Facebook has been seeking to expand.
