Baguio City celebrated its Centennial year yesterday through a lot of events and activities. Over 7,000 residents and foreign and domestic tourists participated in the centennial parade that was held last Tuesday. The parade started at the Baguio Convention Center and ended at the famous Baguio Athletic Bowl. It was highlighted by the performance of a group, called the ” 100 Dancers with 100 Steps ” that drew the attention of the spectators on Session Road, Magsaysay Ave. and Harrison Road and in the Athletic Bowl. The celebration posed a theme, “Fostering a Culture of Caring” as city’s business establishments, institutions, and streets were decorated with flowers and signs depicting the centennial logo. It was intended to keep the centennial spirit alive up to the end of this year. Baguio City was a former hill station in a mountain plateau which was founded by the Americans as a rest and recreation center, and was declared a chartered city on Sept. 1, 1909. A centennial marker at the Botanical Garden
were also inaugurated at the end of the event.
As the 1st day of September kicks off, it is also the beginning of our longest preparation for Christmas. Some of the radio stations were already playing christmas songs to feel the message it brings. Others were now planning what will be the best gift to give for their love ones and friends as they are now completing their shopping lists. Malls and other commercial establishments are on their way to prepare for the huge number of shoppers that will buy their discounted items and avail their promos to avoid the rush. The traditional ” Misa de Gallo ” will also be observe as December comes. Inspite of the problems we had right now, let us still continue to spread the true meaning of this season, it is the perfect time to start now.
