Weather forecast from GMA News, ABS CBN and the CNN reports a new typhoon codenamed Helen is about to reach the Philippines.

Typhoon signal 2 was raised in three areas in Northern Luzon as tropical storm “Helen” maintained its strength while slowly moving westward, the weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 11 p.m. weather bulletin Monday.

Public storm warning signal number 2 was raised over Cagayan, the Calayan Group of Islands, and Isabela, while signal number 1 has been raised in Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Aurora. No other public storm warning signal has been raised elsewhere.

The storm’s center was located 270 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. The storm was moving “west slowly.”

PAGASA estimated that Helen will be 190 km southeast of Aparri by Tuesday evening, and could either be 50 km north or 260 km west northwest of the town Wednesday evening. By Thursday evening, the storm could be 190 km northwest of Laoag City.

There is no update if classes will be suspended during this time.
