P2 million worth of bullet-proof vans, computers and other surveillance equipment was donated by the United States yesterday to the NBI to combat human trafficking and made themselves protected from any attacks from the syndicates behind these. U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney turned over to Nestor Mantaring, NBI Director, the investigation and surveillance equipment at the NBI headquarters in Manila. According to Kenney, this will greatly enhance NBI’s capacity to combat trafficking, enabling them and the talented prosecutors from the DOJ to build stronger and more effective cases for prosecution that will lead to convictions of human traffickers under Philippine law. The ambassador added that U.S. government will continue to be a strong and dedicated partner of the Filipino people to combat trafficking in persons.
