For the past week until now one of the most talked topics we hear on radio and television is the issue about Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s runway congestion. It is said this is the root of all the delays that travelers were experiencing on different airlines in the Philippines. The department of transportation thru its secretary Mar Roxas initial suggestion is to move more flights to Subic as there is no room for expansion in Ninoy Aquino International Airport or it will be more expensive to buy properties surrounding the airport. Smaller planes should also be transferred to other location including aviation schools as according to a study it is using 17 percent of the airport capacity.
Known reasons why NAIA is becoming congested is because the number of airplanes using the runway in an hour should be only 36 but at present it goes as much as 40 airplanes per hour. Another one is the continues of purchasing of new airplanes by some airlines companies and NAIA infrastractures are limited and cannot be expanded as of this time.
Meanwhile Cebu Pacific Air (CEB), The largest budget airlines in the Philippines came up also with a study that there should be an independent slot coordinator for airplanes in the said airport as the one to organize and to decongest the airport traffic in order to avoid delays. Another suggestion came from Cebu Pacific Air is to create a rapid exit area inorder airplanes that had just landed can immediately leave the runway to free for the next flight.
Let see what can our government officials and the experts in the airline industry can come up with in the incoming days.
